Can aggression really be trained out of a dog?

In the vast majority of cases, yes. Aggression is a learned pattern of behaviour, and with consistent, frequent, tailored sessions we can teach a dog new, appropriate and safe responses in its place. Our residential approach achieves a depth of training that simply isn’t possible through weekly individual sessions or group classes.

What causes aggression in dogs?

Aggression can stem from fear, insufficient leadership, poor early socialisation, past experiences or learned habits, and it’s often a combination. Part of our job at assessment is to understand the root cause for your individual dog, because that is what shapes the right training plan.

Do you use dominance or punishment with aggressive dogs?

No. Aggressive dogs need leadership, but leadership isn’t a lack of care or love. We use our parental leadership approach, helping the dog learn progressively through a balance of success and appropriate correction, never harsh, never based on punishment, and never rooted in alpha dominance.

Is my dog too aggressive or too far gone for you to take on?

It’s very rare that we’d consider a dog beyond help. In our experience we’ve never met a truly untrainable dog, whatever an owner has been told about its character. We have the expertise, facilities and experience to work safely with serious cases. Will my dog need to wear a muzzle during training?

Where it’s appropriate for safety, we may use a muzzle as a sensible management tool, never as a punishment. We’ll always discuss handling and equipment with you, and a muzzle that has been introduced properly simply lets us work your dog safely while the training does its job.

How long does aggressive dog training take?

It varies with the severity of the behaviour and the goals we agree, so we’ll give you a realistic estimate once we’ve assessed your dog. As with all our courses, the stay is as long as it needs to be to do the job properly, rather than fixed to a rigid timetable.
