Breed Origin

The exact origin of this breed is a mystery. It is widely believed that the breed’s roots are connected to the nomadic Romani people, who are thought to have travelled with this dog breed.

Name Origin

The name “Dalmatian” is derived from Dalmatia, a historical region located in Croatia, which was originally part of the Austrian Empire. This name connection suggests the breed may have originated here.

Breed Age

Harold (pictured) can be seen wearing his birthday outfit, however, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact age of this breed as a whole. Paintings of spotted dogs have been discovered on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs suggesting that Dalmatians may have existed in ancient times.

Coats

One of the most distinctive characteristics of this dog breed is its unique coat. Interestingly, they are born completely white, with their distinctive dark spots appearing as they grow older. This gradual development of spots is unique to each Dalmatian, meaning each dog has a spot pattern unique to them. This feature makes each Dalmatian one-of-a-kind!
