Cocker Spaniel vs Springer Spaniel

Welcome to our breed spotlight: Cocker Spaniel versus Springer Spaniel.

Cocker spaniel Springer spaniel

The Cocker Spaniel

First, the Cocker Spaniel. Standing 13–15 inches at the shoulder and weighing 20–30 pounds, Cockers are known for their gently rounded ears, expressive eyes, and silky coat. They excel in conformation and obedience trials, and their affectionate temperament makes them outstanding family companions.

The English Springer Spaniel

By contrast, the English Springer Spaniel measures 19–20 inches tall and weighs 40–50 pounds. With a more athletic build and weather-resistant coat, Springers were bred for flushing and retrieving game. They demonstrate exceptional stamina, intelligence, and versatility in field work and canine sports.”

Energy Levels

Both breeds share keen intelligence and an eagerness to please, but their energy profiles differ: Cockers enjoy moderate activity and thrive on daily walks and play; Springers require vigorous exercise, including running, swimming, and advanced training sessions.”

Grooming

In terms of grooming: Cockers need weekly brushing and regular trimming to maintain their coat’s luster; Springers benefit from biweekly brushing and occasional clipping, especially after intense field activity.
