Do Dogs Like The Snow?

Now winter is here, it seems appropriate to ask the question; Do dogs like the snow?

Generally, lots of dogs love playing in the snow but ultimately the love of this weather is a preference which varies from dog to dog – just like humans! So the question should actually be, ‘Does my dog like the snow?’

Although playing in the snow can be exciting for some dogs, it’s important to ensure your dog doesn’t eat high amounts of snow, as this can cause them to have an upset stomach. 

If your dog is less keen to go outside in these colder months, a good alternative is to encourage other forms of exercise indoors.

It’s important to remember dogs feel the cold. While some breeds have thick coats, like Huskies, which enable them to tolerate the cold, others are less used to these colder climates.

All dogs can shiver when cold and can be vulnerable to hypothermia and frostbite, so make sure to wrap up your pup in a nice warm coat before heading out for a walk in the snow. 

So the answer to the question ‘Do dogs like the snow?’ is… it depends! If you’re unsure about your own dog, why not take them out the next time it snows? You can discover if they’re a fan of this weather or if they prefer to stay nice and warm inside.
