How to create a dog-friendly house

The Basics

It is important know how to create a dog-friendly home. Ensure your dog has all the basic things they need. These include constant access to fresh water, their food bowl, and a comfy bed to relax.

Remove Dangerous Items

Certain houseplants, cleaning products, or medicine can be hazardous to dogs so make sure they are kept out of reach of your dog. This can be done by securing cupboards with latches or putting gates to prevent your dog from harming themself.

It is extremely important to make sure your garden is secure to prevent your dog from leaving your premises. Ensure locks are secure on doors and gates and keep fences in good condition as any loose panels or gaps in it could leave your dog in a dangerous situation.

Clutter

Clutter = potential hazard. Any toys such as lego or jigsaw pieces, jewellery like earrings or electrical wires has the potential to be dangerous to your dog if they have access to it, as they can chew on these things and may lead to choking.

Temperature

Ensure the overall temperature of the house is suitable for your dog, i.e. not too hot so they can’t cool down, and not too cold.
