Introducing Ookii, our resident puppy! He’s here to tell you all about his breed: the Rottweiler.

Rottweilers are one of the oldest working breeds, dating all the way back to ancient Rome where they were used to drive and guard cattle.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Rottweilers were developed in the German town of Rottweil, which is where their name comes from.

The breed became known as the ‘Rottweiler Metzgerhund,’ or Butcher’s Dog because they helped butchers herd livestock and even carried money pouches around their necks to protect it.
Rottweilers were officially recognised by the American Kennel Club in 1931, but not until 1966 in the UK. They have since become an incredibly popular dog breed.
They are still connected to their working roots as they often excel as police, military, and guard dogs thanks to their intelligence and loyalty.
