The English Springer Spaniel

The English Springer Spaniel is the tallest of the Land Spaniels and shares ancestry with other Spaniels.

Originally called the Norfolk Spaniel, it was believed to be developed by the Duke of Norfolk. The breed earned its name from its ability to ‘spring’ forward to flush game into nets. After the invention of firearms, it was used to flush game from undergrowth.

Part of the gundog group, Springers were bred to find and retrieve game. This group includes Retrievers, Spaniels, Hunt/Point/Retrieve breeds, and Pointers and Setters.

The English Springer is the most popular working Spaniel. The most common coat colour is liver and white, but other breed standard colours include:
